Evisceration

Removal of the inner contents of the eye with the exception of the sclera. It is usually performed when there is intraocular suppuration or pain in a blind eye. The intraocular contents are immediately replaced by a spherical implant (made of hydroxyapatite, polyethylene, or silicone rubber) and several weeks later by an artificial eye.
