Retinitis

Inflammation of the retina. Itis characterized first of all by a diffused cloudi-ness of the organ. The cloudiness varies verygreatly in intensity, although in general it isgreatest in the vicinity of the optic disc, becausehere the retina is thickest. Consequently, theoutlines of the optic disc become indistinct andthe vessels in the retina hazy. The function ofthe retina is impaired in proportion to the intensity and extent of the inflammation.
